8.6 Blackout and the XCR
The 8.6 Blackout has become a very interesting cartridge. It’s know for its truly devastating impact and its ability to be suppressed. It’s currently available in all of our XCR-M offerings. However, not all older XCR-Ms can accept the 8.6 Blackout cartridge. Here’s why. The 8.6 is primarily designed to be shot subsonic. These rounds have very low pressure and require a shorter gas system to function. We did not anticipate making the XCR-M for subsonic munitions until recently. Some older upper receivers can accept the 8.6 Barrels and some cannot. Here’s how to check if your upper receiver will work. Please refer to the image above.
Measure from the back of the barrel trunion to the Slot in the Upper. If that measurement is about 7 inches (it can be 6 inches for some Mini uppers), your upper can accept a 8.6 Blackout barrel.
