Why the 338 ARC is a good cartridge for the XCR-L:
Designed for XCR-L: The .338 ARC was specifically designed by Hornady to operate in smaller platforms like the XCR-L and AR-15. It uses a modified 6.5 Grendel case, which means it fits in a standard XCR-L magwell. While many AR platforms have trouble cycling this round reliably, the XCR’s improved design cycles .338 ARC flawlessly.
Versatility in Performance: The .338 ARC offers a unique combination of subsonic and supersonic performance. The subsonic load uses a heavy 307-grain bullet, making it an excellent option for suppressed shooting and hunting medium-sized game at close to moderate range. The supersonic load uses a lighter 175-grain bullet for longer-range shooting.
More Power than .300 Blackout: The .338 ARC was created to deliver more energy in a subsonic package than other similar cartridges, like the .300 Blackout. The larger diameter and heavier bullet provide a significant increase in terminal performance, making it a “sledgehammer” for close-range applications.
Suppressed and Unsuppressed Functionality: The XCR-L’s adjustable gas system allows the XCR-L to function reliably suppressed and unsuppressed.
